Antony Price, Famed for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
