Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
