New information has come to light about the tragic passing of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.

The Initial Report

As detailed in an account quoting a family associate, a practitioner scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the house. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.

After gaining access to the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Another individual who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Afterward, emergency responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Legal Developments

Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently in custody without bail.

Clarifications

The anonymous source challenged several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that moment.

Additionally refuted published claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement also extends to descriptions of reportedly "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a event hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they asserted that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were inaccurate.

Investigation Timeline

Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some accounts indicated the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for a number of hours.

Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the residence. He was due to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
