Arsenal's manager remains confident that his squad can continue to cope with fitness issues following disclosing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been absent for months after undergoing an operation on his knee. Hoped to come back sooner, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when advancing his recovery and could not progress “the required stage.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a selection headache for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Remain

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably start again in central defence for the table-toppers.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on new players ahead of this season has resulted in a more robust situation to navigate such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Absolutely, because this season has presented greater challenges in certain positions, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the highest level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the complication noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the next level and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His availability record is phenomenal, he’s been always available, and I look forward to have him back around the team playing because I feel it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
