McKenna's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big football club."

The coach agreed to a new four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh striker is inclined to complete the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in November would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League campaign, should they not end up their group second place.

Considering his present position, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the minimum.
