Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former coach his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.

His retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
