The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the UK's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots played in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports local stages.

Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his live tour to support numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds helped locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues obtained funding support in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that funds from concerts in large arenas supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

Also the 1994 recipients they donated their prize to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Winning was sufficient," said artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted another person's life."

Recently, the trust announced it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by a national body and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
