The President Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Personnel to the White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.

White House Call

The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”

Public Response

Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to support law enforcement in Washington DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to assist people.”

Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Legal Actions and Government Changes

Officials have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event caused the government to pause asylum applications and halt issuing visas to holders of travel documents.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” he informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
