The Three Lions to Launch Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will commence their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they attain the anticipated entry for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an England men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their first match on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Competition Kickoff and Demonstration

The championship was inaugurated at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they approached the site by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were held up with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The first match of the tournament will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will attract families and help reach a more diverse set of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the standard process.

Locations and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight held at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a tournament for the supporters and a showcase of everything we value about the football – its fervor and capacity to foster unity.”

Over 3 million admissions, a record for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be offered to fans.
