Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.
Toronto's team secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
