Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.
On the Tremendous Fan Response
Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”
“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
Considering the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.
“There are some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”
On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?
“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
